Hi all
Bristol Playday set to transform Castle Park for an afternoon of free play and exploration
The event will be held between 12 and 3.30pm on Wednesday 7th August (TODAY) – Entry is free.
Castle Park will be the place to be for family fun, games and play as Bristol gets set to host its 17th annual Playday. The iconic setting of Bristol Castle Park will come alive with the sounds of play and excitement as the biggest free play event of the summer welcomes hundreds of excited families.
Councillor Helen Godwin, Cabinet Member for Women, Children and Families, said: “Play is such an important part of the lives of children and families and Playday is the perfect showcase of the incredible network we have in this city. It’s so important to ensure that children have that chance to play and that we provide the opportunities for play to happen in our day to day lives. I urge everyone with little ones to head on down to Castle Park for a fun afternoon of play and exploration.”
Accompanied children up to the age of twelve are invited to dive into a host of activities from den building and sensory play to sports and games. Families will also have access to a hang-out den and all are invited to bring a picnic along.
Bristol Playday supports the wider National Playday which celebrates its 32nd birthday this year. The national set of events is aimed at promoting play as an integral part of a child’s development as enshrined in Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; “Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities.”
This year’s Bristol Playday is centred around the theme of Play Builds Children, highlighting the importance play has on the lives of all children, families and communities
The free event is accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs with some accessible toilets within the event space. Additional facilities, are located nearby in the Galleries
Bristol Playday is jointly hosted between Bristol City Council and Playful Bristol, a multi-agency partnership of organisations and individuals passionate about children’s play in Bristol.
